Tamim Iqbal Opts Out of Bangladesh Cricket Board's Central Contract Renewal
As the current central contracts of cricketers with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) near expiration, Tamim Iqbal, the seasoned opener and former captain, has expressed his desire not to continue under the central contract beyond the current term.
Jalal Yunus, Chairman of the BCB Cricket Operations Committee, confirmed this development on Sunday (December 24), stating that Tamim has formally requested not to be retained in the central contract. According to Jalal, Tamim has specific plans for his future and wishes to finalize them before making any commitments to the central contract.
Jalal shared, "He wanted to discuss his plans. He has a plan of his own about what is his future plan, how he will move forward in the coming days. Earlier he said that we should not keep him in the contract. He wants not to keep it now, after finalizing the plan he will let us know what he will do."
Tamim is expected to make a definitive decision regarding his career's future after consultations with the top brass of the BCB. Jalal mentioned that Tamim has already had discussions with the Chief Selector and himself. Additionally, a meeting with the board president is scheduled for next month, mainly after the election.
Regarding the release of the central contracts list, Jalal explained, "The selectors had already sat on it, I also went that day. I have a meeting, later it will be discussed in the board. A draft has been done. Hope that we will prepare by 31st December. Before that, it should be given to the honorable president. He will see, then we will release it on the board."
The probable list of cricketers to be included in the central contract features notable names such as Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mustafizur Rahman, among others. However, Tamim Iqbal, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, and Nasum Ahmed are potentially facing exclusion from the renewed central contracts.
