Bangladesh emerged triumphant in this year's Youth Asia Cup, clinching the title as undefeated champions. The Bangladesh team showcased overwhelming prowess and uniqueness on the Asia Cup stage, securing the crown of excellence through outstanding performances with both bat and ball. The victory celebration was notably absent in the UAE, but the champion cricketers received a warm welcome upon their arrival in Dhaka this evening.
Upon landing at the airport, the Shibli-rabbi were greeted with garlands and then escorted directly to the BCB Academy. Yuvraaj, declaring their triumphant return as champions, set the tone for the festivities. The BCB premises were adorned to mark their arrival, featuring a specially erected stage displaying images of the team kissing and celebrating with the title, prominently adorned with the word 'Champions' in bold letters.
Following their 2020 World Cup win, Bangladesh's youth cricket team clinched the Asia Cup this time, setting high expectations for the upcoming World Cup. Despite the pressure, the young cricketers remain unfazed. Team captain Mahfizur Rahman Rabbi expressed confidence, saying, "There is hope. We will strive to meet everyone's expectations, understanding the significant responsibility we have for the upcoming World Cup. The preparation we underwent during the Asia Cup has been excellent."
The Bangladesh team secured their first Asia Cup title by defeating the host United Arab Emirates on Sunday, maintaining an undefeated record throughout the tournament. In the group stage, they defeated the UAE, Japan, and Sri Lanka, avenging their loss to India in the 2019 Asia Cup final. The team made history by defeating India in the semi-finals and then clinching the Asia Cup title by defeating the host UAE.
The rabbis, overwhelmed with joy, returned home with the golden trophy on Monday evening. After a heartfelt welcome at the airport, the team was brought to the academy building in Mirpur, where a stage awaited them. Ashikur Rahman Shibli, the standout performer of the tournament with the highest run tally of 378, and captain Mahfizur Rahman Rabbi shared their feelings on the stage. BCB Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujan added sweetness to the occasion with his words of praise for the captain.
Looking beyond the Asia Cup, the rabbis are now setting their sights on the World Cup. The youth team captain believes that the triumph in the Asia Cup will serve as motivation for the entire team. He stated, "This victory will undoubtedly motivate us. We aim to perform well in the World Cup. Our batsmen, bowlers, and fielders are all in excellent form, and if we maintain this consistency, Inshallah, we can achieve something significant in the World Cup."
Shibley emerged as a standout performer, contributing the highest 378 runs in the tournament, including two centuries and two half-centuries. Reflecting on his performance, Shibli expressed gratitude for the team's success, stating, "Alhamdulillah, it feels very good. My team winning the championship is more important to me than my individual performance. It's gratifying to see the team performing well."
