Pat Cummins has made headlines at the IPL auction as Sunrisers Hyderabad secured the Australian World Cup-winning captain for a staggering 20.5 crore rupees, setting a new record for the highest remuneration in the history of the IPL. While Royal Challengers Bangalore initially showed interest, Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged victorious in the price war to secure the services of this formidable pacer.
The 2016 IPL title winners broke records with the acquisition of Cummins, surpassing the previous record held by English pace bowling all-rounder Sam Curran, who was bought for 18.5 million rupees by Kings XI Punjab in the last auction.
Cummins, previously with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022, withdrew from the tournament in the last season. Now, the Australian pacer is set to bring his skills to a new team, joining forces with Travis Head in Hyderabad. Head, who played a crucial role in Australia's victory over India in the final, was secured by Hyderabad for Rs 6.8 million.
Cummins boasts an impressive IPL record, having taken 45 wickets in 42 matches, achieving a four-wicket haul once. With the bat, Cummins has been equally effective, scoring 379 runs at a strike rate of 152.21, including three fifties. Notably, Cummins holds the record for the joint second-fastest fifty in IPL history, accomplishing the feat in just 14 balls.
