Argentina Set to Play Friendly Match in India After Last Year's Postponement
Lionel Messi's Argentina, initially scheduled for two friendly matches in Bangladesh and India in June last year, is now confirmed to play a friendly match in India in July, courtesy of an invitation from the Kerala government.
The news, reported by Indian media outlet 'SportsKida,' indicates that Argentina has accepted the invitation, with discussions expected to progress further in an upcoming meeting. While it's assumed that Messi will participate, no official confirmation has been provided.
Kerala State Sports Minister V Abdurahiman mentioned, "We have received a mail from the Argentine Federation expressing their interest to play in Kerala." Despite the monsoon season in July, efforts will be made to secure the necessary funds, approximately Rs 40 crore, for the visit.
Argentina's last friendly match on Indian soil was in 2011 when Messi led his team to a 1-0 victory against Venezuela at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. In the same year, they played a friendly against Nigeria in Bangladesh, securing a 3-1 win.
