The wind of change is felt at every level of society. The sports arena is not being left out. The one-time stars of football have united in demanding systematic changes in the Bangladesh Football Federation. A group of former footballers appeared in the front courtyard of the Buffe building on Saturday to convey the message of systemic change.
The initiative was not exactly pre-planned. Several former players gathered at the Mohammedan club to discuss how to break the stalemate of the Footballers' Welfare Association. In the middle of that discussion, when the issue of distrust towards the current executive committee of BAFUF came up, they came in front of BAFUF building. Standing there, they discussed among themselves and expressed their thoughts about the future of Bafuf to the media present.
On Sunday, the supporters announced the March to BAUFFE program demanding the resignation of BAUF President Kazi Salahuddin and Women's Committee Chairman Mahfuza Akhtar. In the morning, hundreds of football fans from different parts of the country will visit Buffe Bhavan. The ex-footballers called for the criminals not to sabotage the football federation behind the supporters.
Former captain of the national team Zahid Hasan Emily said, "We did not go to create any problem. With the games going on ahead, the girls have clear football in October so that the girls can prepare for that. Besides, we formers went to the BAFUF building with the message that BAFUF election should be conducted systematically. We want a systematic change in FIFA guidelines. Those who really want the best of football should take responsibility. We don't want to see any of the current committee again. Because they have failed to improve football.
Recently, Salam Murshedi has resigned from the position of Senior Vice President of Bafuf. He was also in charge of the Finance Committee of Buff. The demands of the former footballers are not only to resign, but he should explain all the accounts of Bafuf.
Biplab Bhattacharya, the former goalkeeper of the national team, said, "He has resigned. But it should be said whether all the calculations have been explained. Those who are still there should also be left in charge of honor. We want to see a change in the buffet like all levels of society. Football should return to its past traditions.
Apart from Emily and Biplab, among the former footballers who were present at Bafufe Bhavan on Saturday were Imtiaz Ahmed Naqeeb, Golam Ghaus, Iqbal Hossain, Masud Rana, Sahid Hossain Swapan, Alfaz Ahmed, Zakir Hossain, Mamunul Islam, Wali Faisal, Zahid Hossain, Tajul Islam and many others. The former requested BAFUF general secretary Imran Hossain Tushar to emphasize the safety of women footballers in the BAFUF building.
