Bangladesh Achieves Historic T20 Victory Over New Zealand
Since 2010, Bangladesh has been participating in international T20 matches in New Zealand. For the past 13 years, Bangladesh faced a challenging streak, losing all 11 initial matches. However, a significant breakthrough was achieved today at McLean Park in Napier, where Bangladesh secured a historic 5-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first T20 of the series.
Bangladesh's opening duo, Liton Das and Rony Talukder, set a promising start in pursuit of the 135-run target. Talukder, making an impact in the first over, sent Tim Southee over the cover on the fifth ball. Unfortunately, the partnership was short-lived as Talukder fell in the second over while attempting a pull shot against Adam Milne, with Southee making a crucial catch at mid-on. Bangladesh stood at 13 runs for 1 wicket in 1.4 overs.
Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto took charge at number 3, showcasing aggressive batting with consecutive boundaries. However, Shanto's promising inning was cut short when he handed a catch to Mitchell Santner at mid-off, scoring 19 runs off 14 balls. At the end of 5 overs, Bangladesh stood at 38 runs for 2 wickets.
Soumya Sarkar, coming in at number 4, displayed aggressive batting with a massive six at deep mid-wicket off the first ball of the seventh over. Despite his attacking approach, Soumya fell victim to Ben Sears' exceptional bowling in the ninth over, leaving Bangladesh at 67 runs for 3 wickets in 8.4 overs.
Subsequently, Tawheed Hridoy stepped in as the fifth batsman.
