David Warner's Farewell: Last Test Series Against Pakistan
David Warner is set to bid farewell to his Test career, with the upcoming series against Pakistan marking his final stint in whites. The third and concluding Test, scheduled to be played at Sydney, holds particular significance as it is Warner's home ground, where he aims to conclude his illustrious career. Warner has secured a spot in the team for the first Test of the series, with Australia fielding a 14-member squad for the match.
Commencing on the 14th of this month in Perth, the Australia-Pakistan series will progress to the Boxing Day Test on December 26. If given the opportunity, this match could potentially be Warner's last appearance in Test cricket. Ajira has unveiled a 13-man squad for the Perth Test, providing the left-handed batsman with a chance to fulfill his final desire in the subsequent match.
In a prior statement, Warner mentioned, "If I perform well in the final of the Test Championship and the Ashes and get a chance in the Pakistan series, then I will step back from Tests." He emphatically asserted his decision not to participate in the West Indies series.
Warner's Test averages have dwindled to 28 since the 2019-20 season, with only one Test century recorded since 2020. Meanwhile, contenders such as Cameron Bancroft, Marcus Harris, and Matt Renshaw are vying for selection through strong performances in domestic cricket. Nevertheless, the Australian selectors have placed their trust in Warner for the Perth Test.
Regular captain Pat Cummins will lead the announced team against Pakistan, featuring pace bowling all-rounders Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green. The pace attack will be spearheaded by Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins, with Lance Morris eagerly awaiting his debut.
Australia's squad for the first Test comprises David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins (captain), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Scott Boland, Cameron Greene, and Lance Morris.
