Coach Hathurusinghe Puzzled Over Soumya Sarkar's Struggles and Aspirations
Soumya Sarkar's return to the national team, despite a lackluster performance in domestic cricket, has not proven successful, leaving both fans and Bangladesh's head coach, Chandika Hathurusinghe, perplexed about the reasons behind Soumya's struggles.
Having played his last two matches against New Zealand, Soumya faced challenges in both series, particularly failing to score in the matches leading up to the World Cup in India. In the latest series, he once again faltered in the opening match, contributing only 63 runs and forming an unimpressive partnership with Dak Mere.
Expressing his uncertainty about Soumya's recent performances, Hathurusinghe remarked, "I can't explain Soumya's last 5 matches. Despite observing him closely in recent days, I am unable to pinpoint the issue affecting Soumya's form." Notably, Soumya has been active in domestic cricket, prompting confusion about his lack of success at the international level.
Highlighting the team's need for versatile players, especially in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, Hathurusinghe emphasized the challenge of organizing the team without Shakib, who had been a key figure for 15-17 years. Recognizing Soumya's significance as an all-rounder, Hathurusinghe expressed hope for Soumya to contribute both with the bat and ball.
Hathurusinghe clarified, "While Soumya may not replicate Shakib's role, we anticipate his meaningful contributions in both batting and bowling. Our vision is to see him evolve into an all-rounder capable of making an impact in various facets of the game." The coach remains optimistic about Soumya's potential to fill the void left by Shakib in the team's dynamics.
