Sudden retirements are common in the world of sports. Be it cricket or football, some are retiring from the whole game. Some are holding themselves back from playing for internationals, clubs or franchises. Imad Wasim is one such cricketer.
Imad last played for Pakistan in April last year. The T20 match against New Zealand in Rawalpindi on April 24 was his last match in international cricket. Then he suddenly retired from international cricket in November. After two-and-a-half months, it is being heard about his return to the Pakistan jersey. In an interview given to a local sports media in Pakistan, Imad said about the possibility of returning to international cricket. The Pakistani all-rounder said, 'I want clarity on one thing. This is how responsibility will be given to me. Not only as a captain but also as a senior player. There is a matter of where I want to take the team with responsibility or where the senior players want to see the team. So I want to play cricket properly for Pakistan.
Imad's sudden decision to retire came back in that interview. The Pakistani all-rounder said, 'I want to tell you that the decision that I took, I took it with 100% thought. At the end of the day it was my decision. But you never know when Pakistan will need you. You have to do something about this.'
After retirement, Imad is playing regularly in franchise cricket. He played 8 matches in the 2023–24 season of Big Bash for Melbourne Stars. He is currently playing for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT-20 in the United Arab Emirates. The Pakistani all-rounder said, "There is nothing wrong in deciding to retire." Not everyone is mentally right all the time. So really I'm still very happy. I am playing cricket all over the world. I have played before. But yes, I am optimistic that something good is coming.'
