Shakib Al Hasan Enters Top Category for Pakistan Super League Ninth Season
Bangladesh's captain, Shakib Al Hasan, has achieved the prestigious status of being placed in the highest category in the draft for the upcoming ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). PSL officially announced Shakib's inclusion through a video posted on their Facebook page last night, showcasing various highlights of Shakib's previous performances in the league. The tournament authorities captioned the video, declaring, 'Shakib Al Hasan has officially entered the HBL PSL draft.'
A total of 493 foreign players, including 28 Bangladeshi players, have been enlisted in the PSL draft this year across six different categories. Shakib stands out as the sole representative from Bangladesh in the elite platinum category, where the base price for players is set at 1 lakh 30 thousand US dollars (approximately one and a half crore rupees).
Other notable Bangladeshi players, such as Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehdi Hasan Miraj, and Taskin Ahmed, find themselves in the diamond category of the draft, with a base price of 60 thousand dollars (about 66 lakh taka). The players representing Bangladesh in the remaining four categories have not been disclosed.
Shakib Al Hasan brings a wealth of experience to the PSL, having participated in three previous seasons. In 2016, he played for Karachi Kings in the inaugural edition, followed by stints with Peshawar Zalmi in 2017 and the most recent season. However, his involvement in the last season was limited to just one match before he had to leave for the United States due to family reasons.
While specific details about the schedule for the upcoming PSL season remain unknown, reports from Pakistani media outlets, including Cricket Pakistan, suggest that the ninth season is expected to take place from February 13 to March 3 next year. The likely date for the auction is reported to be December 14.
