Tamim Iqbal Joins Exclusive 3000 Runs Club in BPL
Tamim Iqbal marked a significant milestone in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as he became the first batsman to accumulate 3000 runs in the tournament's history. The achievement unfolded during his innings for Fortune Barisal, where he reached the 3000-run mark with a single off Nasum Ahmed in the 11th over. No other player in the BPL had achieved this run total before Tamim.
Requiring 35 runs to achieve the feat, Tamim accomplished the milestone while opening for Fortune Barisal. His run tally puts him ahead in the race to 3000 runs, with his teammate Mushfiqur Rahim closely following. Both cricketers are playing together for the same team in the current edition of the BPL.
The rivalry between Tamim and Mushfiqur in terms of BPL runs is not new. In 2016, Mushfiqur became the first player to reach 1000 runs in BPL, followed by Mahmudullah. Tamim subsequently became the third batsman to cross the 1000-run mark. However, in the 2019 season, Tamim achieved another milestone by becoming the first player to reach 2000 runs, surpassing Mushfiqur.
Among the top run-scorers in BPL, Tamim now leads with 3000 runs, followed by Mushfiqur Rahim. Mahmudullah, who achieved the 1000-run milestone ahead of Tamim, currently lags behind with 2302 runs. Notably, all three players are currently teammates in Fortune Barisal. Imrul Kayes holds the fourth position with 2254 runs, and Shakib Al Hasan is fifth with 2144 runs.
