After returning home after winning the World Cup, India started playing T20 series in Zimbabwe. However, there is no one notable from the World Cup winning team in that series. Barring the retired Kohli-Rohit-Jadeja, all the senior players in the team have been rested for the Zimbabwe series.
Several senior cricketers including Kohli and Rohit will be resting in the ODI series against Sri Lanka to be held in August. In that case Lokesh Rahul or Hardik Pandya will be the captain. Along with Rohit-Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah may also be rested for this series.
Rohit Sharma last took leave 6 months ago. Then played one series after another. Starting from South Africa series in December-January, he played T20 series against Afghanistan, Test series against England, IPL and T20 World Cup.
Regarding their rest, a spokesperson of the Board of Control for Cricket in India said, 'Both of them are auto choices in ODIs. The Champions Trophy is preceded by a three-match series against England. That will be enough for them in preparation for the Champions Trophy. In the next few months, both of them will focus on Test cricket. We will play 10 Tests between September and January. Since the Champions Trophy will be held in mid-February next year, there is no need for them to play the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in August. But if they want to play then most welcome. But I think they will choose rest.
India will play two of their ten Tests against Bangladesh, three against New Zealand and five against Australia. Before that, Rohit and Kohli are being rested to reduce their workload.
